We are a collective of artists and producers based in different parts of the world. Our goal is to create unique genre films with a strong voice and aesthetic.
NICOLE ELMER
Nicole’s screenplays have received recognition and support through a variety of labs and contests. They have been: selected as a semifinalist for Slamdance in the horror category, in the top 31 entries out of over 4000 scripts submitted (2019); selected for the Cine Qua Non Lab Script Revisions (2021) and Cine Qua Non Lab Story Lines (2021); selected in the Frontières/Fantasia Co-production Market (2020); selected the NALIP Latino Media Market (2020); as a semifinalist in the Writers’ Lab (2022); and have twice advanced to the second-round in Sundance (2016). She wrote the script for Jorge’s short horror film, Daughter.
Her first feature as a director was In the Shadow, an indie psychological horror film that picked up distribution with Devolver Films. She is in post-production for a heavy metal short horror film, Bone Guitar, which she wrote and directed. She is also a Hispanic Scholar Fund Fellow, studied acting at New York University (Tisch School of the Arts) and film production at the University of Texas at Austin. Her prose has been published in journals such as Sweet Jane and Southern Hum.
As an electronic musician in the late 1990s/2000s, she released music under the monikers of neutral, squab teen, and searchwoundinfinitus. Hear some of this music and see her short video experiments at her website: symptomsofdeath.com
JORGE SERMINI
Jorge just wrapped post-production for a horror short he directed, Daughter, shot in Belgium. The script was written by Nicole Elmer.
Jorge’s co-created projects span from thrillers, to horror, to arthouse dramas. Working with Nicole, these works have been selected in the Frontières/Fantasia Co-production Market (2020) for genre film, as a top-entrant semifinalist in the Slamdance Screenwriting Competition - Horror Category (2019), the Cine Qua Non Lab Story Lines (2021), the 2020 NALIP Latino Media Market (National Association for Latino Independent Producers), Hubert Bals Fund pre-selection (2018), and second round in the Sundance Development Track (2019).
Jorge has produced three independent features including In the Shadow, What’s the Use?, and The Transcendents. Jorge is a professional editor with a specialty in virtual reality (VR). He has shot operas for Bayerische Staatsoper and Opera Köln in Germany. He also studied opera at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico and has a Masters in Opera Performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
MARCO NOYOLA
Marco Noyola has over 20 years of experience designing sets and props for theater and serving as an art director and production designer for independent films. Previously, he provided additional art direction and set construction for Blue Paper Film Works' first feature film, In the Shadow. His most recent production design credit, The Transcendents, is now available on Amazon Prime. He collaborates with Blue Paper Film Works as a production designer, storyboard artist, and contributing screen writer. He most recently designed and created the bone guitar in Nicole Elmer’s short heavy metal horror film, Bone Guitar.
ARLES ESTES
Arles composes music and creates sound design for film, theater, dance productions, and interactive games. His theater contributions have been performed all over the US, and his film contributions have premiered in festivals all over the world. He has both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Composition and diversifies his work between orchestral film score and ambient electronic soundscapes. Recent projects include arranging and producing the album Space Karate Plays the Beck Song Reader, by the band Space Karate and composing the sound design for A Public Fit’s production of Small Mouth Sounds, for which he was awarded “Best Sound Designer” in 2019 by the Las Vegas Valley Theater Awards. He composed both In the Shadow and What’s the Use? for Blue Paper Film Works. He won “Best Sound Design” in 2004 by the Austin Critics’ Table for the theater production The Honorable Urashima.
JASON TREMBLAY
1977-2017
Jason was a writer and playwright, who departed this world on April 3, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. His play The Virgin With 10,000 Arrows was nominated for four awards from the Austin Theater Examiner including “Best Production of a Drama” and the Cohen New Play Award from the Austin Critics’ Table. Jason was also highly active with creating children’s theater with his company, Theater Heroes. He created the productions of Gretl!, a reinterpretation of the Russian tale of Vasalisa the Beautiful, as well as Call of the Wild. As a screenwriter with Blue Paper Film Works, his works include contributing to two completed films: as a contributor for In the Shadow, and writer for What’s the Use? His screenplays for Blue Paper Film Works include The Short Life and Extraordinary Death of Francis Tennessee, Curse of the Bambino, and Anna Outstanding.
